CYLINDER HEAD ENGINE |
OFF1068 - CYLINDER HEAD ENGINE An engine outfitted with famous "Offy" heads speaks volumes of proven quality and workmanship while showing unsurpassed pride in ownership. Offenhauser heads are precision cast, featuring extra heavy aluminum alloy construction with maximum rib design. More fin area for rapid heat dissipation plus increased water capacity affords cooler engine running. The water jackets are located close to the critical heat points for protection against block cracking. These are the finest heads available for street, highway or competition use. In the selection of a power head do not be misled by seeking high compression ratios. It is true that if every power factor involved were 100% efficient then the higher the compression ratio, the more power developed. However, where the engine is not custom made it very often proves that a lower compression ratio will produce a higher overall efficiency. How to order: First order heads by engine year. Such as: 39-48 (center inlet) uses #1068; 49-53 engines (water inlet at front) use #1069. Then use chart to find your current bore and stroke. Next, find your desired final compression ratio, this will determine the correct head suffix number you need to order. Such as: if you have a 39 engine and your current bore is 3-3/16 with a stroke of 3-3/4 and you are seeking a 7.6 to 1 compression ration, you would order a #1068-400 head. It is our experience that modified street engines run best with a compression ratio of 8.0:1 to 8.5:1. Mostly stock or early engines (less than 239 cubic inches) run best with a compression ratio of 7.5:1 to 7.9:1. Specify 400 or 425 compression.
