In 1964, GM introduced their ultimate performance ignition system, transistor ignition or “magpulse”. However, there were a few problems that 1960’s technology couldn’t address. We asked one of GM’s former top electronics experts to take a look at the system and see what could be done to improve it, using today’s technology. He completely redesigned the “amplifier circuit board” to bring the system up to it’s full design potential. Here’s what we found: Original Board *Gremanium transistors limit operation to 190 degrees F before breaking down. This causes a hard hot start and weak cold start. *Board design and components limited the coil voltage to less than full potential. *Old components easily degraded over time and are not easily repairable. Our New Board *New silicon transistors work up to 300 degrees F and gives easy hot and cold starts.
