IGNITION COIL - Part Number 53-376
Performance coil. This coil increases torque & horsepower throughout the RPM range, reduces lean surge on late model bikes and improves starting. Designed to provide maximum performance with Crane FireBall HI-4 and HI-4E ignitions, it also enhances performance for stock H-D electronic ignition on all 1979 & later models. The 2nd generation design utilizes the latest in technology to provide a 30% weight savings and a 15% size reduction. It provides significantly higher spark-gap energy output than stock and is easily installed with the stock mounting bracket. Features include precision molded plastic housing, and it is encapsulated with epoxy material, for increased resistance to shock and vibration. Extra long secondary high voltage towers eliminates arc-over, and closely spaced primary electrical terminals make for a neat installation to the stock wiring harness. Coil and Spark Plug Cable Considerations We recommend replacing the OEM coils. Coils used with the Hi-4 must have at least 2 ohms primary resistance. We recommend the following coils: For HI-4 Ignition with Single Plug Heads: Use part No. 53-377 coil. This is a "Siamese" coil with twon independent sections and will fit in the stock mounting location on most H-D motorcycles. You can also use two dual spark tower coils and ground one of the towers on each coil to the engine case or frame. You will have to fabricate a bracket to mount the second coil. HI-4 Ignition with Dual Plug Heads. Use two part No. 53-376 coils. You will have to fabricate a bracket to mount the second coil. Spiral core spark plug wires are recommended for maximum performance. Do not use solid copper spark plug cables; they may cause interference with your ignition system and accessories.
