LIFT KIT INSTALLATION TOOL - Part Number 97-54
The .500 - .600 Lift Kit for Sportster (except Evolution) features larger than stock 1.437 o.d. outer and inner springs for greater stability with interference fit to reduce harmonics and control spring surge. Tool part No. 97-54 is required for installation and complete instructions are included. The tool is shipped with both an 11/32" pilot and 5/16" pilot so that the valve guides do not have to be removed. Additional machining on the top of the guides probably will be required to avoid interference with top collars. Springs have more pressure than stock. Combined loads: 110 @ 1.600; 320 @ 1.100; 365 @ 1.000. Coil bind: .930. Recommended cam lift: .500 to .600. WARNING: Be certain to check the thickness of the cylinder head before machining the spring seat area, especially if the intake port is enlarged. Some late model Sportster heads are thin in this area and necessitate a minimum of machining. It is almost essential to use the long intake valve (available on special order) to achieve sufficient installed height. Each Manley Spring Kit is attractively skin packaged and clean storage. Kits requiring special machining operations include complete instructions. Every kit is engineered with interference fit, reverse wound springs to reduced harmonics and control spring surge. Manley has introduced "K" series spring kits which include Manley chrome moly heat treated keys correctly matched to the top collars.
