CAM COVER - Part Number 88-75
Made from 7075-T651 aluminum with tensile strength of 83,000 psi which is double the amount of T6061-T6 aluminum and almost triple the amount of cast cam covers. The Mona Lisa it's not! But nonetheless, this cam cover is right to the centerline of the cam bushing and pinion bushing. In fact, this cam cover is within .0002 of where the factory intended it to be. You ask why hold the centerline that close for that matter, why even care about centerline in ca cam cover? Well, let us tell you! This is not overkill at its best; Jims is concerned with the life of your motor. For this reason, Jims is helping you to achieve long life of your valve train components, consisting of your cam, tappets and your tappet blocks. First, your cam shaft must lie on the best possible foundation. This foundation that Jims is concerned with is the centerline of the camshaft. If the cam shaft is tilted off in any direction much more than the running clearance at each end of the cam shaft this will affect the way the tappet rollers ride on the cam lobe. If they are not riding flat, but on one edge of the roller, it could possible shorten the life of your valve train. The cam shaft is supported at both ends, while the inner cam bearing is a given, meaning the bearing is not going to move unless you do a lot of machining. Your cam cover MUST be right to the case centerline. Jims new cam cover is a two-piece construction. The inner cover houses the cam bushing and cam seal. The four screw hols that hold the outer cover on also can be used to move the inner cover. The outer cover is sealed with state-of-the-art O-rings. One O-ring seals oil for the outer cover itself and the other O-ring seals the timing area. Both bushings are Jim's fit to H-D specifications made in the U.S.A. Cam seal is a C.R. seal made in the U.S.A. Two U.S.A. made O-rings for outer cover and ten U.S.A. 1/4" screws. Two mounting screws are all that are showing at final assembly. In spite of all this technical stuff, they look GOOD.
