Crate Engine Fast Burn 385. Remember that TV ad where one person's chocolate bar ends up in another's peanut butter? The resulting concoction was a treat for all. Well, that's what happened when GMPP engineers stuck Fast Burn head in - er, or - a ZZ4 partial engine. The result? An increase of 30 horsepower over the regular ZZ4 - and the birth of a new, more poweful small-block crate engine: the Fast Burn 385. Rated at 385 horsepower and 385 lb. ft of torque, the Fast Burn 385 is all ZZ4 inside the crank case, including the forged steel crankshaft, high-silicone aluminum pistons, hydraulic roller camshaft and roller lifters. It breathes deeper and more efficiently with the Fast Burn cylinder heads, which have specially-shaped chambers that burn the air/fuel mixture more quickly and completely. The heads also boast large, 2.00-inch and 1.55 - inch valves. Delivered with an aluminum dual-plane intake manifold, HEI distributor, cast iron water pump, damper and flexplate, the Fast Burn385 needs only a carburetor , fuel pump, starter and plug wires to get running. You also can pick up an additional 40 horsepower by swapping the factory-installed camshaft for the famous Hot Cam Kit. Installation Notes: Requires addition of carburetor, starter, spark plug wires and exhaust manifolds (not included). 750-cfm four-barrel carburetor recommended. Comes with 12.75 inch externally balanced automatic transmission flexplate; change to externally balanced flywheel for manual transmission applications. Intended for 1979- and-earlier pre-emissions street vehicles or ll off-road vehicles. Not intended for marine use.
