Bowtie Bare Block Cast iron. 3.875-inch bore. Our latest design casting, with improved quality and durability. This heavy-duty cast iron Bowtie block is rough-bored to 3.875-inch. The cylinder bores can be bored to 1.030-inches. The block is for maximum-effort competition engines. Deck surfaces are thicker than production blocks, head bolt holes are blind-tapped for better gasket sealing, and the main bearing bulkheads are 0.900-inch thick. Also the front and rear bulkheads are reinforced with strengthening ribs, lifter holes are finish bored to production diameter of 0.842 inches, and cylinder bores have nominal wall thickness of 0.340 inches. It is designed for crankshafts with 2.45-inch main bearing journals (350-style) and one piece rear main seal. Two-bolt main bearing caps simplify installation of heavy-duty steel main caps with splayed outer bolts. It features a boss below the bellhousing flange behind #8 cylinder that can be drilled and tapped for lifter valley oil scavenging. Lifter valley oil drainback holes are drilled. Production-style oiling system. Note: Oil galleries extend flush to front and rear faces of cylinder case and can interfere with some camshaft drive systems, so timing system clearance should be checked before engine assembly. Oil dipstick hole is not drilled. Crankshafts designed for two-piece rear main seal can be installed using seal adapter P/N1051118.
