Crankshaft Pulley 6-5/8 inch. Two groove, high-rpm, 6-5/8 inch pulley for engines with short water pump. Note: Can be used with water pump pulley P/N 3770245 and belt P/N 9733722 without an idler pulley or alternator. Production small-block V8 and V6/90 deg Chevrolet cranshafts were redesigned in 1986 to use a leak-resistant one-piece rear seal. The diameter of the crankshaft flywheel flange was reduced to fit this new seal. The engine block, oil pan, pan gaskets, and flywheel were also redesigned to accommodate this one-piece seal. Crankshafts designed for one-piece seals have a smaller flywheel bolt pattern than pre-1986 production cranks. All small-block and V6/90 deg cranks which use a one-piece seal require a counterweighted flywheel for proper engine balance. Unmachined crankshaft forgings and most heavy-duty crankshafts (expect P/N 14096036) use pre-1986 two-piece rear seals. These cranks can be installed in late-model blocks which are machined for one-piece seals by using crankshaft seal adapter P/N 10051118. Bad Vibrations: An effective torsional damper will extend the life of your small-block V8 or V6/90 deg Chevrolet by dampening harmful crankshaft vibrations. The torque inputs from the piston and rod assemblies bend and twist the crankshaft slightly with every power stroke. The crank then rebounds as the next cylinder fires. A torsional damper "quiets" these potentially destructive vibrations. Production Chevrolet torsional dampers control crankshaft vibrations by the stretch and rebound of an elevator (synthetic rubber) ring sandwiched between the damper's hub and its outer inertia ring. The GM/Fluidampers, in contrast, dampen vibrations by shearing a thick, viscous silicone fluid which is sealed inside the damper housing. Elatomer balancers are tuned to a specific frequency, and are very effective at that frequency. The GM Fluidamper is not tuned to a specific vibration frequency, so it is effective over a wide range of operating speeds.
