Cylinder Head Cast Iron Vortec. These cast iron cylinder head assemblies, by using our fast burn combustion chambers and high velocity port technology, offer impressive power gains at an affordable price. They can be mildly ported for additional performance and milled up to 0.040-inch for increased compression. This Vortec head out-flows our traditional Bowtie head and offers a 20-40-horsepower increase over earlier-cast iron heads. The heads will fit any 1955-and-later small-block except the reverse-flow LT1/LT4 and current Gen III engines. They must be used with Vortec-style intake manifolds and require self-aligning rocker arms. The heads are fully assembled with 3/8-inch rocker studs, intake seals, and exhaust seals. Note: Do not use a camshaft with more than 0.475-inch lift without re-machining valve guide bosses and checking valve seal to valve spring retainer clearance. Valve seats can be machined for 2.02-inch intake valves and 1.60-inch exhaust valves. Rocker arm studs can be pinned or drilled. GM Performance Parts cylinder heads are created with GM premium-engineering, then cast and machined to our exacting manufacturing standards. GMPP cylinder heads are available as bare castings or complete cylinder head from service replacement castings to all-out competition applications.
