RADIAL TWIN-ISO - Part Number 000124
RADIAL TWIN-ISO • Two channel balanced line isolator • Jensen transformer-equipped • 100% isolation to reduce ground loops • Line-level with up to 24dB signal handling • Ultra solid I-beam construction The Radial Twin-Iso is a balanced 2-channel, line-level isolator that has been specifically developed for professional touring systems as a means to eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops when interfacing various equipment such as two consoles, remote towers and drive racks. Central to the Twin-Iso is the use of world-renowned Jensen audio transformers. These assure the very best signal transfer without distortion caused by saturation or phase shift. All connections are balanced XLR following the AES standard with pin-1 ground and pin-2 hot. To add versatility, a polarity reverse switch is provided for each channel to ensure absolute phase is maintained throughout the audio signal path. As with all Radial products, the Radial Twin-Iso features a rugged 14-gauge steel construction for maximum durability and to stand up to the rigors of pro-touring. The unique book-end design provides a protective zone for the switches while the full bottom no-slip pad provides plenty of ‘stay-put’ for more active stages. A unique skeletal design features welded I-beam construction, making it impossible to torque the internal PC board, reducing the opportunity for cold solder joints to develop due to outside stress. This unique design also permits up to eight Twin-Isos to be rack-mounted using the Radial J-Rak in just two 19” rack spaces. The Radial Twin-Iso is a simple yet extremely effective tool for the professional audio engineer and system designer. Typical Twin-Iso Applications: • Sub-mixing two consoles • Video player to a PA systems • Two PA systems together • Mixer to a remote amp rack • Mixer to a remote speaker tower • Recorder to mixer for live performance • Mixing console to recorder for live recording • Live mixing console to broadcast feed Cool Factors: • Really easy to use • handles up to +22w/no saturation • Isolation gets rid of hum and buzz • Compact design - stereo • Mounts in J-Rak for high-density applications • Built like a tank Twin-Iso Development Understanding the Twin Iso Over the past decade, the move away from transformer coupled inputs on consoles, crossovers and active speakers to more affordable op-amps has yielded greater ‘bang for the buck’ at the expense of greater susceptibility to noise caused by stray voltages in real-world environments. Outside of the laboratory, ‘perfectly balanced’ signals are severely compromised due to imperfections in wiring, less than perfect power distribution and differing ground reference voltages from equipment. The result is generally hum, buzz and noise caused by so-called ground loops. A transformer provides a magnetic bridge that allows a source and destination to be interfaced while virtually eliminating that nasty 60-cycle hum that can be the scourge of the sound engineer. No other company produces higher quality transformers than Jensen. Renowned for their warm Bessel curve, high signal handling capacity and extended frequency response, Jensen transformers are the pro-choice when interfacing equipment where optimum sound quality is desired. Twin-Iso Features & Specifications Look inside a Twin-Iso and you will find the build quality and all components to be of the highest professional standards. Radial's proven construction methods and materials ensure highest performance and years of trouble-free service. The Twin-Iso features Jensen audio transformers – the best audio transformers in the industry – to achieve the highest possible signal integrity and phase coherence while eliminating hum and buzz caused by ground loops. Inside the Twin-Iso 1. Isolated XLR connectors to eliminate chassis ground potential. 2. Pair of Jensen audio transformers provide 100% isolation to eliminate hum and noise causing ground loops. 3. Military spec PC board with full surface ground plane to reduce susceptibility to RF noise. 4. High grade switches - ensure long life and reliable performance. 5. 14-gauge steel welded I-beam construction makes it virtually impossible to torque the PC board. Twin-Iso Input and Output Panels 6. 'LIFT' - Ground 'Push to lift' switch lifts pin-1 for both 'INPUT-1' and 'INPUT-2'. 7. 'INPUT-1' - 600 Ohm balanced input, female XLR connector, AES standard with pin-1 ground and pin-2 hot. 8. 'INPUT-2' - 600 Ohm balanced input, female XLR connector, AES standard with pin-1 ground and pin-2 hot. 9. Book-end design creates a protective zone around the switches & connectors – indestructible 14-gauge steel construction. 10. Full no-slip rubber bottom pad provides mechanical isolation, electrical insulation and prevents unit from sliding around. 11. Heavy-duty baked enamel finish for excellent durability and great looks for years! 12. 'OUTPUT-2' - Isolated 600 Ohm balanced male XLR output connector; AES standard with pin-1 ground and pin-2 hot. 13. '180°' - Polarity Reverse phase reverse switch for 'OUTPUT-2'. 14. 'OUTPUT-1' - Isolated 600 Ohm balanced male XLR output connector; AES standard with pin-1 ground and pin-2 hot. 15. '180°' - Polarity Reverse phase reverse switch for 'OUTPUT-1'. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Construction The Twin-Iso is designed to withstand the rigors of high-use professional environments. Radial's innovative 'book-end' design provides a protective zone around the switches and connectors that keep these components safe. Stress on circuitboards causes broken and intermittent solder joints, a common cause of failure in commercial rental and other high-use environments. Radial's 14-gauge welded I-beam inner chassis and 14-gauge outer shell greatly reduce the possibility of torque stresses being applied to the PC board. A full-bottom no-slip rubber pad works double duty by providing protection from electrical shock and assuring that the Twin-Iso won’t slip and slide around.
